TP-Link Deco BE11000 Review: Wi-Fi 7 Mesh With Four 2.5G Ports

The TP-Link Deco BE11000 is a three-node tri-band Wi-Fi 7 mesh system that covers a large house, gives you four 2.5 Gbps ports on every single node, and costs meaningfully less than the Netgear and eero systems it competes with. On the spec sheet it is one of the best-value Wi-Fi 7 mesh kits you can buy.

It is also sold under at least four different names, shares its radio design with five sibling products, and has a hard performance ceiling that its "11 Gbps" branding does absolutely nothing to communicate. Sorting that out is most of the work of buying one, so that's where this review spends its time.

Wait — which BE11000 is this?

This is the single most common mistake buyers make with this product, and it is entirely TP-Link's fault.

TP-Link's own FCC declaration letter for this hardware lists six model numbers sharing one radio design: Deco BE65, Deco BE63, Deco BE11000, HB610, Hexagon PB60, and Deco BE65 Pro. The filing states plainly that the BE63 and BE11000 "is exactly the same as the Deco BE65 except for the model," and that the BE65 Pro differs only in its USB port, PHY/switch silicon and front-end power — the RF circuit, antennas and antenna positions are identical.

It gets worse on the marketing side. TP-Link's US product pages for both the Deco BE11000 and the Deco BE65 Pro carry the same headline: "Deco 7 Pro BE11000 Whole Home Mesh WiFi 7 System." Two different products, same name, same class rating, different hardware. A TP-Link staff member had to spell out the difference on the company's own support forum after a customer asked why the two models had separate firmware downloads.

So before you buy, check the ports. That is the only difference that matters:

If your internet plan is faster than 2.5 Gbps, you want the BE65 Pro and its 5 Gbps ports. If it isn't — and for the overwhelming majority of households it isn't — the BE11000 reviewed here is the better buy, because four multi-gig ports per node beats two.

The 2.5G port is the real speed limit

"Up to 11 Gbps" is the sum of three theoretical band rates added together. No single client will ever see it, and more importantly, neither will your wired network.

Every node here tops out at 2.5 Gbps per Ethernet port, and there is no link aggregation. That means any traffic passing between a wireless client and the internet — or between a wireless client and your NAS — has to squeeze through a 2.5 Gbps pipe. The 6 GHz radio's 5,764 Mbps link rate is real, and it does useful work for node-to-node backhaul, but it cannot deliver more than 2.5 Gbps to anything on the other side of a wire.

Independent testing bears this out. Reviewing the functionally identical Deco BE65, Blacktubi measured 2,301 Mbps to a laptop at three metres and noted explicitly that the result was limited by the 2.5G Ethernet port, not by the radio. That is an excellent number — it means the system can actually saturate a 2 Gbps internet plan over Wi-Fi, which most mesh kits cannot — but it is roughly a fifth of the headline figure.

Set your expectations accordingly. On a 1 Gbps or 2 Gbps connection, this hardware will not be your bottleneck. Above that, look at the BE65 Pro's 5 Gbps ports, or at a router with a 10 Gbps port like the ASUS ROG Rapture GT-BE98 Pro.

Coverage, placement and backhaul

The 7,600 sq ft rating comes from TP-Link's own testing in a 4,000 sq ft two-storey drywall villa using 2×2 MLO-capable clients, which is a more specific disclosure than most vendors bother with. Treat it as an optimistic ceiling: brick, plaster, foil-backed insulation and metal appliances all cut into it hard, and 6 GHz suffers worst of all — it has noticeably shorter effective range and poorer wall penetration than 5 GHz.

The nodes are small white cylinders, about seven inches tall, and that matters more than it sounds. Unlike a flagship gaming router, these are easy to place well — on a shelf, in the open, at head height — and good placement beats spec-sheet superiority every time. It is the single biggest performance variable you control.

The feature worth calling out is combined backhaul. The Deco firmware can run wireless and wired backhaul simultaneously rather than forcing you to pick one, so if you have Ethernet to two of three locations, you wire those two and let the third go wireless. With four 2.5G ports per node, a wired backhaul still leaves you three ports for a desktop, a console or a NAS at each location — which is the practical argument for this model over the two-port alternatives.

Software: easy, then annoying

Setup is the best thing about this system. Plug the first node into your modem, open the Deco app, follow the prompts, and add the other two by powering them on nearby. Twenty minutes is a realistic figure, and owners consistently praise it — the Best Buy listing for the closely related BE65 Pro rates setup 4.8 out of 5 across nearly 200 reviews.

Then the friction starts. A TP-Link cloud account is mandatory with no skip option. Configuration is app-first and the web interface is nearly vestigial — no traffic statistics, no IP reservation, no ability to kick a device off the network. And the more useful parental controls, content filtering and reporting sit behind a HomeShield subscription, on hardware that already costs several hundred dollars. Basic security scanning and the IoT network are included; time limits, profiles and detailed reports largely are not.

The software features worth praising are the separate IoT network with WPA3, which keeps cameras and smart plugs from becoming a route into your main LAN, and the fact that every Deco model interoperates. You can add a cheap Deco node in three years and it will just join the mesh.

The FCC import ban, and why it doesn't block this purchase

This needs addressing because it sounds much worse than it is for a buyer.

On 23 March 2026, the FCC's Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau added foreign-produced consumer routers to its Covered List, acting on an Executive Branch national security determination. The restriction is broad — it covers routers made outside the United States regardless of who makes them — and TP-Link, with roughly a fifth of the US retail market, is the most exposed vendor. It has since been petitioning the FCC for a conditional approval, arguing that it separated from its Shenzhen parent in 2022 and is now a US company headquartered in California.

What it means concretely:

  • The ban applies to new FCC equipment authorizations. Models already authorized can still be imported and sold.
  • This hardware was authorized on 31 January 2024 and Wi-Fi certified that June, comfortably before the cutoff. Buying and using it is unaffected.
  • Devices already in consumers' homes are explicitly unaffected, and the FCC issued a waiver so existing gear keeps receiving security and firmware updates.
  • Exemptions for new imports are decided by the Pentagon or DHS, not the FCC, and last up to 18 months.

The practical risk isn't your purchase being invalidated — it's roadmap uncertainty. If TP-Link can't secure approvals, its future US lineup gets thinner, which matters if you were planning to expand this mesh with new models years from now. Existing Deco nodes will keep working and keep interoperating either way.

The Omada alternative: skip mesh, hang an access point

If the software limitations above are what bother you, there's a different answer that uses the same radio class: the TP-Link Omada EAP770, a BE11000 ceiling-mount access point from TP-Link's business line.

It runs the same tri-band Wi-Fi 7 numbers as the Deco — 5,765 Mbps on 6 GHz, 4,324 on 5 GHz, 688 on 2.4 GHz, with 320 MHz channels and MLO — but the philosophy is completely different. Per TP-Link's spec sheet, each unit is a flat 8.7-inch disc, 1.3 inches thick, that mounts to a ceiling, wall or junction box with the kits in the box. It takes a single 2.5G port, runs on 802.3at PoE+ or the bundled DC adapter, draws up to 25.4 W, covers about 1,500 sq ft, and handles 380+ concurrent clients with 24 SSIDs.

What you gain: proper centralized management through the Omada controller, VLANs, RADIUS and MAC authentication, rate limiting, band steering, seamless 802.11k/v/r roaming, and no subscription paywall on any of it. Ceiling mounting also puts the radio in the single best position in any room, which is worth more than most spec upgrades.

What you give up is everything the Deco does for you automatically. The EAP770 is not a router — it has no WAN, no NAT, no DHCP, no firewall. You supply the router, and you supply a PoE+ switch or find somewhere to hide a power brick above the ceiling. Each AP needs an Ethernet run; there is no wireless backhaul option. Budget for two or three units plus cabling and switching, and this stops being the cheaper choice.

Pick the Deco if you want one box, one app, and no cabling. Pick the EAP770 if you already have Ethernet in the walls, want set-and-forget stability, and are comfortable owning the router and switch separately.

Price and where to buy carefully

The Amazon 3-pack has been running around $418 new, with used and open-box units from roughly $350. That undercuts the Best Buy BE65 Pro 3-pack, which lists at $499.99 to $599.99 depending on the week — so you're getting four 2.5G ports per node for less than the two-port-plus-5G variant. On price-per-multi-gig-port, this is the strongest value in TP-Link's Wi-Fi 7 mesh lineup.

Two cautions on the listing itself. First, the Amazon 3-pack is frequently fulfilled by Amazon but sold by a third-party marketplace seller rather than TP-Link, so check the seller and the return window before ordering. Second, its Amazon rating sits at 4.0 across a relatively thin 84 reviews, while the Best Buy BE65 Pro variant of the same hardware holds 4.6 across nearly 200. Same radios, different score — which points at listing and fulfilment variance rather than a hardware difference, but it's worth knowing that the more consistent feedback is on the Best Buy SKU.

Who should buy the Deco BE11000

Buy it if you have a 1 Gbps or 2 Gbps connection and a house big enough to need three nodes. This is the sweet spot: the system can saturate a 2 Gbps plan over Wi-Fi, and the 6 GHz backhaul keeps node-to-node links from eating your client airtime.

Buy it if you have wired devices scattered around the house. Four 2.5G ports per node — twelve across the kit — is the standout feature, and it means each node doubles as a small multi-gig switch for a desk, a TV stack or a console.

Buy it if you want networking to be boring. Setup is easy, roaming works, and the app hides the complexity.

Who should skip it

Verdict

The Deco BE11000 is a very good mesh system wearing a very confusing name. Strip away the branding and you get three tri-band Wi-Fi 7 nodes with twelve 2.5 Gbps ports between them, real 6 GHz backhaul, simultaneous wired-and-wireless backhaul, and a setup process that will not ruin your evening — for a couple of hundred dollars less than the obvious competition.

The reservations are real, but none of them is a dealbreaker. The 2.5G port ceiling means "11 Gbps" is marketing, not a target, and you should buy this expecting roughly 2.3 Gbps to a good client rather than anything more. The software is easy right up until you want control, and then it's a wall with a subscription behind it. And you have to actually check which BE11000 you're buying, because TP-Link has given the same name to hardware with different ports.

Get past that and the value is hard to argue with. For a large house on a gigabit or 2-gig plan, with a few wired devices per room and no appetite for managing a network, this is the mesh kit to beat.
